Very recently, as some of you may know, I just got engaged. As a wedding planner, I thought it would be fun to take you, all of our followers through my journey as I plan my own wedding. So stay connected as I share the details to planning my very own wedding!
Never would I have imagined that I would be a wedding planner and even more-so, be a wedding planner who would simultaneously be planning her own wedding. Then, all of a sudden, I found myself asking the same exact questions that I ask my clients when I first meet with them. When are you getting married? Have you booked your venue? Do you know how many guests you will invite? What type of theme or decorations do you have in mind? Do you know your wedding party? All of these same questions suddenly raced through my head the moment my boyfriend, now fiancé, asked me to marry him.
So you may all be wondering, how did he do it? How did he ask? Well, here it is. Chris, my fiancé, and I had went out for a lovely dinner at The Gladly to celebrate our third year of knowing each other. I remember on the way to the restaurant I had taken a good look at the size of his pockets and to check if there was anything stuffed in his jacket. I saw nothing and nothing was noticeable. We finished our dinner, which was delicious by the way, and I was insistent on going out for a little longer (it was SuperBowl weekend and everyone was in town). After a few minutes of back and forth, we decided to opt out of going anywhere and just ended up coming right home to enjoy some post dinner glasses of wine.
I had been on a Blake Shelton kick that night. I got to see him live the night before when he preformed for the AZ Cardinals and all the NFL owners, I was still on cloud 9, so we turned on some country music to listen to. Luke Brian’s song, “Do I” came on. I love that song. It is so easy to sing to and soon, I found myself singing to Chris, of course in my high pitch, squeaky, most out-of-tune voice. Then, he disappeared. I didn’t really think much of it. I assumed he had went to the bathroom or went to get something for the dog. All of a sudden he walked out of the hallway with an 8”x10” picture frame then began with an explanation. “I was at Potato Barn the other day and I thought you might like this frame.” Of course I responded in a very confused, “okay… “ He then continued, “I thought that we might be able to put it up somewhere and put a picture of us in it.” I was still really unsure what was going on. “Umm, I am not really sure where we would put that frame (thinking the whole time, this is a teal frame – it matches nothing that we have or any of our decoration.) but, what picture do you want to put in it.” He proceeded by then saying, “well I was thinking more of a future picture, like possibly one that we haven’t taken yet.” As he was saying this, he got closer and closer to me and eventually handed me the frame. Everything became a blur after that point because I saw this shiny, silver, little ring hooked on the back of the frame. I was in such shock that I didn’t know what to say. I know he was saying some of the most thoughtful, meaningful words but it was so hard to concentrate on exactly what was coming out of his mouth. There was this overwhelming rush of emotion that suddenly came across – happiness, excitement, tears, all of it and the first thing I said was, “You didn’t even ask me yet!?” He may have already asked but from what I had heard, he didn’t. So there it was, “Will you marry me, will you spend the rest of your life with me?” Of course YES was my answer. I had the biggest smile on my face and all I could see was the smile on his. January 30th soon became the best day.
